Gay daddies and sons
Father opens up about coming out to his 3 sons: I'm still the same dad as before
"Good Morning America" is featuring stories in celebration of Pride Month. Scott Takacs, a year-old and father of three, penned a personal essay about his experience coming out as a gay man to his sons. Scan about his journey below in his own words.
Coming out at 42
I was 42 years old when I came out to my wife. It was 15 months later that I started that matching conversation with my three boys -- 9-year-old twins and an year-old.
The whole experience is somewhat of a blur, mostly in part to the truth that at that point in my life there was a lot of change happening and some significant pent-up emotions. There wasn't much of a plan, no guidebook in hand, only goals that I hoped my boys would start the process of kind and accepting their dad for whom I truly was: a gay man.
It had been a long 15 months since coming out to my wife, an experience I unfortunately wouldn't narrate as positive, joy or something I ever want to repeat. It was wrought with the happiness
Fathers and Sons
by Sod and Eric
Several months ago Eric, my son who battles same sex attractions (SSA), couldn’t sleep. He got out of bed and decided to write down what he thought dads needed to do to help their sons that struggle with same gender attraction. Fathers and Father Figures (by Eric)
The importance of fathers and father figures in the healing journey of the homosexual struggler cannot be overstated. The process to health and liberty is greatly increased when a father can change into actively involved in helping his son overcome homosexuality. This is a fundamental truth because our earthly fathers were meant to call us out as men and to model true masculinity for us.
Fathers have to be willing to own up to and truthfully name the ways in which they have injured their son. They have to be able to say that to their son and ask for forgiveness. Repent of the ways they have lived out of the false masculine.

In this post, I share some of my favorite characters and why representation is so important.
It wasn’t too long ago when American and Canadian TV programming lacked representation of same-sex attracted parent roles. The idealized image of fatherhood on television was highly influenced by the social context of what a father is - dominant, sturdy, and in a position of power and sway at home and serve . Thus we had Archie Bunker in All in the Family, and Jed Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies who epitomized how men still relied on their wives when it came to child-rearing and housework.
But the father figure character evolved in the coming years. We loved to binge watch on Dan Conner in Roseanne was the likable and relatable father figure, Red Forman in That ‘70s Show was stern but relied upon for sound advice, Hal in Malcolm in the Middle who was a disciplinarian but had a soft identify for his boys, and the adorable J
