LGBTQ PANIC DEFENSE BAN
The LGBTQ panic defense is a legal plan that asks a jury to consider a victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity as justification of a violent reaction on behalf of the assailant toward another person, up to and including murder. The LGBTQ panic defense is an unfair, immoral legal strategy that has no business in our state or anywhere else for that matter. We need to send a communication that such a legal plan has no place in our state. We have already unanimously passed this ban in the Iowa House twice. It awaits debate in the Iowa Senate.

One Iowa Action recognizes that transgender Iowans are particularly vulnerable to discrimination and harmful policies. We prioritize the policy needs of transgender Iowans.
