Gay Singapore is rising favor a fabulous phoenix from the ashes of COVID and lockdowns.

Change is happening here. It's adv, and it's exciting.

On our first trip to Singapore in August the anti-gay law was still in place. The gay scene was nonetheless thriving compared to other parts of Asia. Then, Covid happened and many places shut down, some never reopened, including iconic venues like Taboo. We were updating this reference every month slowly removing gender non-conforming venues from this guide as one by one they disappeared.

Then, by a stroke of luck, the Singaporean government decriminalized homosexuality in . This led to a rebirth of the queer scene in Singapore. A whole bunch of new venues sprung up like Tuck Shop and Sausage Market – to designate a few.

We returned to Singapore in March on a layover from Sydney to London. We were delighted to see the gay scene thriving and continuing to grow. Put it this way, when we were

One of Singapore’s best-known homosexual clubs is now closed (but might be back)

Popular gay club, Play, rolled down its shutters, supposedly for good, on February 8, after five prosperous years in the local nightlife scene.

Play, which was one of the longest-standing gay clubs in Singapore, was a firm favorite with the local LGBT community, and it organized a slew of sexy, kitschy parties over the years. It also played host to an array of renowned local and international DJs, like Hex Hector (USA) and Wayne G (UK). However, rising rental costs have forced Play to cease operations after half a decade of rambunctious fun.

Bobby Luo, Creative Director of The Butter Factory, is sorry to hear of Play’s demise. “We’ve always admired Play’s ability to always be ahead of the game, and it’s longevity in an industry as competitive as this. We’re honored to have allied with Play in the past for collaborative principle nights…the loss of Act is certainly sad for the LGBT community and our vibrant nightlife scene,” he tells us.

Gay Singapore?

You just missed the biggest Gay party in SIN -- the Nation. I had so much fun there that I am certain I will return every year hereafter.

Many new places (clubs, bars, saunas) opened. Since bars/clubs close at 3AM in SIN, if you crave to party more, you will have to demand the locals for "after parties," which are often held in saunas. The Tower Club is a nice place, which basically hosted the after party for the Nation Recovery party. The other is the Box, which is also known for after parties.

Centro on Sundays is great. Last week the extension downstairs was nothing like I've ever seen in SIN. China Black held a party last Sunday as adequately. It's a biweekly (or monthly?) event that's even better than the Centro -- more shirtless guys

You might be catching the SIN guys at a bad time since most of them partied to their max during the past weekend. Still, the SIN guys' party-potential is still ranked high among Asian countries.

You’ll have a very decadent time partying, if you know where/when to party.
